Until recently the Costa Calida coastline
was largely unheard of to those living outside Spain. While
the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol saw a huge increase in foreign
tourists, ex-pats and investors, the Costa Calida was one
of Spain’s best kept secrets. However with the opening
up of its airport (Murcia, San Javier) to international flights,
and the construction of a motorway down from Alicante, the Costa
Calida and the Murcia region was ‘discovered’. Now
it is charming foreign visitors with its warmth, scenery, history
and culture. Unlike other parts of Spain this is an area
which really feels like Spain, where traditions continue and co-exist
happily alongside careful development and investment. Here
you are uniquely placed - a short drive to beach, city, sport and
culture.
The region of Murcia is located on the South-East corner of the
Iberian Peninsula, between the regions of, Andalusia, Castile-La
Mancha and Valencia, where it occupies an area of 11,317 km2. It
borders the province of Albacete in the North, the province of
Alicante in the East, the provinces of Granada, Albacete and Almería
in the West, and the Mediterranean in the South-East. Murcia
region is the ninth largest of the Spanish autonomous communities.
The area has a mixture of mountains, plateaus, dry river beds,
valleys, fertile plains and farming lowlands. Also a significant
contributor to the landscape is the Segura river basin, which creates
the perfect conditions for Murcia’s market garden, where
a plethora of fine fruit and vegetables are grown. These
combine to create an environment that is both diverse and spectacular.
The region is a favourite holiday destination for both national
and foreign tourists. There are endless beautiful beaches, dramatic
coastal cliffs, imposing mountain ranges, and fascinating cities
with unique histories and cultures to explore. Murcia region
enjoys more than 3,000 hours of sunshine each year, the summers
are long and hot, the winters short and mild.
